| For about two years (1967—1968) investigations were conducted on the ecology of mosquitoes in relation to the transmission of arboviruses in Surinam (DE KRUIJF 1970). Part of this study dealing with the daily activity of biting mosquitoes is presented here. Daily activity of biting anopheline females has been widely studied because of their ability to transmit malaria (MATTINGLY 1949, SENIOR-WHITE 1953, GILLIES 1957, SLOOFF 1964, and many others). | Foram estudadas as soluções tampão SMP original, SMP (1 + 1), Woodruf (1 + 2), acetato de cálcio 0,50 N - 0,25 N e 0,125 N para avaliar a exigência de calcário de diversas amostras de solos. As amostras de solos foram submetidas à incubação com quantidades variáveis de carbonato de cálcio. Os dados obtidos permitiram estabelecer as curvas de neutralização e daí calcular a quantidade de carbonato de cálcio necessária para elevar o pH de cada solo a 6,40. Colocando-se as amostras de solos em contato com as diversas soluções tampão, o pH das soluções mudou de valor. | This paper describes Thailand's experience to date with new technology in rice, namely new high yielding varieties with associated inputs, which forms one part of the "green revolution." First, the historical background in exports, production, and domestic marketing and pricing is presented. Next the significant developments in rice research in Thailand are described, followed by a brief outline of the adoption of new varieties. In the final section, some implications are drawn for future developments, based on the experience gained until now. |

| The author studied the morphology of Blackstonia perfoliata s.l. and compared its variability with that of the other representatives of the genus. She also carried out ecological studies of “Blackstonia perfoliata ssp. serotina” on the Dutch island Voorne and compared her results with those in the literature relating to B. perfoliata in some adjacent regions, notably the Upper Rhine area. On morphological and ecological grounds B. perfoliata ssp. perfoliata and ssp. serotina are to be regarded as two distinct species, B. perfoliata and B. acuminata. |

| Het Vogeljaar door Jac. P. Thijsse, waarvan in 1969 de zesde druk verscheen, is door zijn in opeenvolgende drukken herhaaldelijk wisselend uiterlijk, een interessant historisch object geworden. De tekst evolueerde langzaam, doordat bij iedere nieuwe druk nieuwe gegevens werden toegevoegd en kleine correcties werden aangebracht. Op het gebied van illustraties, formaat, typografie en bandversiering hadden echter bijna steeds (behalve bij de derde druk die veel lijkt op de tweede) ingrijpende veranderingen plaats. In grote lijnen kan men zeggen dat de eerste drie drukken nauw verbonden zijn met de kring van medewerkers aan het tijdschrift De Levende Natuur, de volgende drie drukken met die van medewerkers aan De Wandelaar.
